The tragic events of 9/11/2001 will never be forgotten, along with the extraordinary demonstrations of courage and self-sacrifice by its heroes- the first responders. That was the wellspring of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, whose events raise funds to assist firefighters, police officers, veterans injured on the job, and families impacted by a loss. On May 20th, 2024, there will be a great opportunity to support New York first responders and their families by participating in the annual Tunnel to Towers Foundation New York Golf Classic. Held at the Lake Success Golf Club, this day of giving back includes a round of golf at this historic Gold Coast course, followed by a sumptuous dinner and a live auction at the Clubhouse.
Philip Maltaghati, CEO of United Public Adjusters & Appraisers, notes that the entire proceeds from this year’s Golf Classic and Auction will benefit the son of slain NYPD Detective Jonathan Diller, specifically to support his education. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation honors Stephen Siller, a Brooklyn firefighter who was about to play a round of golf after his shift when news reached him that a plane had hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Siller retrieved his gear but could not drive through the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel to the scene, and he then strapped his equipment on his back and raced through the tunnel to the site. Sadly, Siller was among the 343 firefighters lost that day in the line of duty.
This annual outing is so much more than just a golf event- it is an opportunity to support a great cause, and the chance to meet heroes from our greater New York community.
