It is vitally important to introduce our children to music as well as to mentor and nurture them to fully achieve their potential. On Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024, those in attendance at the John E. Grimm III Clubhouse in the Bronx witnessed and experienced a dynamic and compelling cultural event when British classical/rock violinist, Daisy Jopling performed for the Madison Square Boys and Girls Club. A renowned artist and composer, Ms. Joplin has spearheaded a music mentorship foundation. Her acclaimed acoustic performances are further enhanced by the lilting sounds from her 246 year old Antonio Gragnani violin. Her performance was compelling and provided those in attendance with a preview of what can be expected when Ms. Jopling’s foundation begins the new violin program at the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club in September.Â
During the concert, immediate interest by the clubhouse members in attendance was very evident. Throughout Daisy’s rousing performance, the members both danced and listened in rapt attention, enthralled by the prospect of possibly learning a new musical instrument mentored by a virtuoso, one of the Jopling Foundation’s teaching staff. Enjoying the evening’s festivities was Leo Arnaboldi, Co-President of the Madison Board along with Jasmin Brown, Clubhouse Director and Arianna Charles, Teen Campus Director. Also in attendance was Philip Maltaghati, President of United Public Adjusters & Appraisers, a Bronx advisory board member for the Club who noted that Daisy’s generosity extended to allowing the club members to hold and play with another of her centuries-old instruments, a guitar, treasured since she received it as a toddler.
Maltaghati met Ms.Jopling a year ago when she performed at another area function. He immediately realized the value Daisy’s foundation could bring to the members of the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club, and together they worked to bring that vision to reality. The violin classes taught through the auspices of the Daisy Jopling Music Foundation will further the mission of the Madison Garden Boys & Girls Club to bring life-enhancing opportunities to disadvantaged youth.
