About the Role

The Role

We are hiring an In-House Insurance Coverage Attorney with at least 4 years of experience in insurance coverage or property damage litigation. This role is focused on supporting our advocacy efforts for policyholders, not on direct client representation.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret commercial and residential property insurance policies.
  • Draft coverage analyses, opinions, and internal strategy memoranda.
  • Collaborate with public adjusters, estimators, and forensic accountants to strengthen claims.
  • Provide legal insight and support in preparation for appraisal, mediation, or litigation with outside counsel.
  • Anticipate carrier defenses and support proactive case strategy.
  • Stay current on New York insurance coverage law and relevant case decisions.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • New York Bar admission required (other states a plus).
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in insurance coverage law or property damage litigation.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analysis skills.

We need a boots-on-the-ground professional who can accurately evaluate structural damage and prepare insurance-compliant repair estimates for both residential and commercial properties.

This is a critical role in helping our clients recover from property damage due to fire, water, storms, and more. You’ll be the eyes in the field—inspecting properties, spotting hidden damages, and producing clear, accurate scopes of work that support the claims process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site property inspections across the Tri-State area (NY, NJ, CT), with occasional travel outside the region as needed
  • Prepare detailed damage assessments and repair estimates using Xactimate or similar platforms
  • Identify code upgrades, hidden damages, and additional scopes often missed by carrier adjusters
  • Collaborate with internal team members including public adjusters, contents specialists, and claim managers
  • Support claims through documentation, photographs, and expert insights during negotiations
  • Participate in joint inspections and adjuster meetings when required

Requirements

What You’ll Do:

  • Leverage your existing relationships to generate leads and drive new business
  • Consistently bring in commercial and residential claims with six-figure potential
  • Represent United at industry events, networking groups, and association meetings
  • Collaborate with our marketing team to strategize and execute new campaigns
  • Provide regular updates on lead activity, opportunities, and deal progress
