A client with an extensive portfolio of commercial buildings called his insurance company to report a frozen sprinkler pipe break that caused water damage to the 10,000 sq.ft. building in Newburgh. Since the building was under design and renovations to become a new restaurant franchise, the insurance company stated the claim was not a covered loss. Six months later, the insured reached out to a mitigation company to perform demolition, dry out, and mold cleanup who proceeded to reach out to UPA for guidance. UPA immediately reviewed the policy, documented the damages, contacted the insurance company, brought in building experts, and proved the building owner had on-going operations with hundreds of documents to support our position. Due to our firm’s involvement the claim denial was reversed and a seven figure settlement was reached.
