Tropical Storm Sandy Damages Equestrian Arena

interior view of equestrian arena

Tropical Storm Sandy devastated many residential and commercial properties including a well-known horse riding arena on the North Shore of Long Island. Our team of public adjusters were contacted immediately after the storm to assess, document, present, and negotiate a claim for wind damages to the exterior of the horse riding arena as well as the ensuing water damages to the structure’s interior. Once our firm presented a claim for damages after we took the initial meeting with the carrier’s field adjuster, the insurance company immediately retained a team of engineers, hygienists, and roofers. In one of the insurance company letters to the insured, it states “The ceiling damage, which our expert believes happened over years, would have occurred outside this period. Therefore, since the ceiling damage occurred outside the policy period, no coverage would apply and no payment will be made for repairs.” At all times, our firm presented proof that the structure was well-maintained prior to Storm Sandy and that the insured had taken the necessary steps to prevent further damages after Sandy and the Nor’easter that had followed in order to maintain normal business operations. After extensive negotiations with the assistance of our legal team, the claim was settled for 486% more than the initial offer made by the insurance company.
